Lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven!

Matthew 6:19 Jesus is specifically speaking to his disciples, VS 19 Jesus tells them lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust, doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. VS 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.

This teaching makes us ask the question; how do we lay up treasures in heaven?  Here are just a few ways that we can do that according to biblical teaching.

How to lay up treasures in heaven, Matt. 5:5,8- Being humble and pure in heart.

Matt. 5:6- Hungering and thirsting for righteousness.  Matt. 5:7- Show mercy.  Matt 5:9- Making peace.  Matt, 5:10- Being persecuted for the sake of righteousness.   Matt. 5:13- Being the salt of the earth, which is preserving Godliness. Matt 5:14- being the light of the world.

Matt. 5:19 -Following God’s commands. Matt 5:22- Resisting anger.  Matt 5:28, 32- Being faithful to one’s spouse.  Matt 5:37- Keeping your word.  Matt 5:39- Turning the other cheek.

Matt 5:41 -Going the extra mile.  Matt 5:44- Love your enemies. Matt 5:44 -Pray for those that persecute you. Matt 6:3 -Giving to the needy discreetly.  Matt 6:12- Practicing forgiveness.

Matt 6:25- Shunning worry and trusting God to provide for your needs. Matt 6:33- Seeking first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.  Matt 7:1,5 -Not being unfairly judgmental, but someone who examines their own life and integrity first.  Matt 7:7- Pursuing the things of God.  Matt 7:15- Being on guard against false prophets. Matt 7:21- Practicing authentic discipleship, meaning that we not only believe in Jesus, but seek to know him and do what he says.

May we all strive to lay up all these treasures to reach our goal towards heaven.
