Sticks and Stones May Break Ones Bones But Words Can Destroy Ones Soul

James 3:6-10 warns us of how dangerous our tongue can be. James says, the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God.10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

Words that hurt can change the course of one's life. Matt. 15:11 says, it is not what goes into the mouth but what comes out of the mouth that defiles the man.

Every word we speak have a direction, either that of life or that of death.

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

If we were to go to a foreign country and we spoke our identity would be given away by our accent. The same goes for when we speak, our identity will be given away by the way that speaks from our heart rather we are a Christian or not.

Luke 6:45 says, a good man out of the treasures of his heart bringeth that which is good; and an evil man out of his evil treasure of his heart bringeth that which is evil: for the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

When we pray, we need to ask God to help us with our tongue as we read in Psalms 141:3, set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth keep watch over the door of my lips.

In conclusion, let our tongue speak as the example that is acceptable in the site of the Lord.

Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones

Isaiah 55:11So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Psalm 19:14Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Romans 10:10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
