Husbands Love Your Wives

We are told in the book of Genesis 2:20 that Adam didn’t have a help mate for him.  “21And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam and he slept:  and he took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.  23And Adam said, this is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh:  she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.  24Therefore shall a man leave his mother and shall cleave unto his wife:  and they shall be one flesh.”

Often husbands don’t appreciate their wives, and often wives don’t appreciate their husbands because they don’t see their spouse as being a gift from God.  God didn’t mean for husbands and wives just to love each other but rather to love and support each other.  I am often amazed when I hear of husband being unfaithful to his wife or a wife being unfaithful to her husband.  Obviously, there is a lack of biblical teaching on marriage and the union between a man and women.  In our culture today, there is a redefining of what that relationship should look like.  Last week I talked about how that the devil loves division and separation.  God on the other hand loves unity and harmony.

Ephesians 5:20-29 says, “20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another in the fear of God. 22Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.  25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. 28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.”

Couples, when you are looking for a mate, seek a God-fearing mate.  A successful marriage will always have God in it and when both parties seek him first.
