The Subject of Death

The subject of death is an unpleasant topic for most of us, yet we must seriously ponder about it!  How many times do you go to bed, and think about dying. You know a person could die at any time, you never know when a person might die.  Indeed death is an important topic for every man to consider.  In Hebrews 9:27 we read, "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment."   Death relates to everyone of us.  Going to the house of mourning forces us to think on the subject of death.  In Ecclesiastes 7:2-3,  "It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.  Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better."  But Jesus can free us from the fear and terror of death, with the hope of the gospel.  In Hebrews 2:14-15, "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage."   Jesus brings life and immorality to light by the gospel.  "But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:" 2 Tim1:10.  When death weighs heavy upon our minds, and sin burdens our heart, we can look to the Lord.  Putting our faith in the power of the Lord Jesus Christ.  He rescues us from sin, and can fill our hearts with optimism and hope.  Do you have hope in Christ?  Are you afraid of death and dying?  Turn to the Lord while you have the chance to obey the gospel.
