Laodiceanism

I heard a new word this past week, Laodiceanism. It means "the quality of being indifferent in politics or religion." Of course those familiar with the word of God, know that it comes from the information in Revelation 3 about the church in Laodicea. "And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's creation. I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see. Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent." Rev.3:14-19. Lukewarmness, being so-so, haphazard indifference is absolutely sickening to the Lord. He wants us to be zealous for Him, but if not He would rather we be cold than lukewarm. The Laodiceans were self deluded. Wealth and material things had blinded them of their poor spiritual condition. It is a great danger living in an affluent society that we can become complacent, lukewarm and indifferent about our zeal and service in the Lord. God has been very gracious and kind toward us. He has given us every reason to be zealous in his cause. The Lord is not some kind of puppy dog that will be happy throwing Him a few crumbs of time, or pay Him a little attention now and again. Puppy dogs will happily receive such treatment, but the Lord is worthy of so much more. All glory, power, adoration, zeal and love are due Him! Let us avoid the sin of Laodiceanism.
