Cat Haven

Recently there was a young 24 year old girl, who was working as an intern in the big cat sanctuary near Fresno California, was killed by a four year male lion. It had been this girl's dream to work with large cats, such as lions and tigers, for a long time. It is not clear why she was in the cage area of this male lion, it is still under investigation. One things is for sure according to noted animal expert Jack Hanna who said, "That even if girl knew the lion, a big cat can be unpredictable in the way it reacts to what it sees or hears. They are wild animals, end of story," he said. "No matter what anyone says, they are wild animals." It was a tragedy all the way around for everybody. But it reminded me of another incident that took place hundreds of years ago about lions and a human. That was the story of Daniel who was maliciously put into a den of lions, (not just one lion). In Daniel 6:16 we read, "Then the king commanded, and Daniel was brought and cast into the den of lions. The king declared to Daniel, May your God, whom you serve continually, deliver you!" The king had been tricked into making a law that if one violated it, the consequence would be that the person would be thrown into a den of lions. But unlike the event this past week where the girl was killed by the lion, Daniel was safe. "The king declared to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions? Then Daniel said to the king, O king, live forever! My God sent his angel and shut the lions' mouths, and they have not harmed me, because I was found blameless before him; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm." Dan.6:20-22. What a tremendous story of faith and of the great power of God. But for the wicked what a horrible end of their lives, "And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den." vs.24.
