That's Ridiculous

was talking with Deborah, one of the sisters at the Pine Grove congregation down in Clay County the other day after the meeting. She was relating a conversation with a coworker about the Bible. She asked about where Deborah went to church and the coworker asked if that is there where they don't have music? Deborah told her that we don't use instrumental music in worship for we don't have any authority for it. The coworker's reply, "Ah Deborah, That's Ridiculous." Such is the mind set of so many in the world about Bible authority which is really an issue about the authority of Christ or of God. How can it be ridiculous to be concerned about being a true worshiper? In Jn.4:23-24 we read, "But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth." God is seeking folks to worship him in spirit and in truth. God commands us to sing praises to him, but he does not command us to use instrumental music in worship. When we do things that are without authority, it is what the bible calls iniquity or lawlessness. Jesus said "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name? And then will I declare to them, I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness." Mat.7:21-23. So what is so ridiculous about respecting the Lord, his authority and trying to simple to do his will? Who really is being ridiculous in light of these verses? Honest people who love the Lord, can clearly see who.
