Spanking

I remember talking with a little boy one time, who was about 7 and ½ years old. We were talking about spankings and said that he thought that spanking is something that kids all over the world know about. I thought to myself, how perceptive was his comment, that spanking, is a universal language that children all over the world understands. Several verses comes to mind. Proverbs 22:15, “Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.” Proverbs 23:13-14, “Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.” Proverbs 13:24, “He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.” Now notice in the New Testament, Hebrews 12:9, “Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?” I guess one can see why spanking is a universal language. It is a teaching from the word of God, from thousands of years ago. Parents have seen the benefit and use of the rod of correction in the training and up bringing of children. What is the goal? To vent anger of a parent? No, to get the child to see that disobedience has a price that comes with it. And if you do good, things are pleasant, but if you do bad, punishment comes. Thus communicating that obedience is the easier and better choice in the long run. Spanking has been abused and misused by some; but when administered by loving parents, it is effective! It is language that children all over the world know, and will respond favorable to.
