Flex Appeal

"Flex Appeal"

In the Stanford newspaper recently in the sports section, they had a photo story about a bodybuilding competition. Now there is nothing wrong with men or women to lift weights to build strong muscles. Nor is there anything wrong with having a muscular physique. Nor is there anything wrong with athletic competition. But what is bad about the competition is the public display (in a mixed audience) of the near naked bodies of men and women. Paul said, "also that the women should dress themselves modestly and decently in suitable clothing, not with their hair braided, or with gold, pearls, or expensive clothes, but with good works, as is proper for women who profess reverence for God." 1 Tim.2:9-10 NRSV. Tiny little bikini briefs on the men and the tiny bikinis on the women certainly do not cover the shame of one’s nakedness. "I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see." Rev.3:18. One of the most astounding things in the piece, was that a denominational preacher from Crab Orchard was in the competition with his picture in that newspaper story. I think this man needs to study the above verses. But when people are not govern by the world of the Lord, it is easy to do just about anything you want to do. If you can toss Acts 2:38 out the window, it is just as easy to toss 1 Tim.2:9-10 out the window with it. Other folks show the same lack of respect for the Bible in going to public pools nearly naked also. People of a sound mind will not be found in public places almost naked, but will be clothed, and in their right minds as the man that was healed in Mark 5:15.
