Tied To A Tree

One time I  ate with a family from the congregation in a nearby county. Marion the husband, works at a place that houses and teaches troubled kids. So many children come from abusive homes. Marion related one story that stuck out in my mind. A young man about12-13 years old, was there because his parents would literally tie him to a tree, while they would party and do drugs and other stuff. How sad that parents could become so uncaring to tie their son to a tree, so they could participate in sinful behavior. Maybe they wanted to keep him away from seeing this kind of behavior, so if they tied him up they would not have to worry about him coming in on them unexpectedly. But whatever the reason it was a terrible thing to terrorize and abuse a youth in this manner. How many of us, would want to be tied to a tree and left there for hours? This is the kind of thing that makes your blood boil to hear about innocent children abused in some horrible way. This is what Paul spoke about in Rom.1:31, "Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful." People that have a natural affection for their children, would not abuse and mistreat their children in such a manner. Yet how many children in spite of such mistreatment, (still having a natural affection), want to love and be loved by their parents? How many children’s lives have been disturbed by uncaring, selfish parents? May those that have been abused as children, raise up above the poor example that was set for them, and find the healing in the grace and mercy of our God. "But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. And you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall." Mal.4:2 NIV.
