Imparting Spiritual Gifts

We would like to consider for a few moments what the Bible says about the imparting of miraculous spiritual gifts by the apostles. You can read about these spiritual gifts listed in I Corinthians 12.

The apostles imparted these gifts by the laying on of their hands. Notice in Acts 19:6, where Paul imparted these gifts to the 12 disciples, "And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied." Paul said in Romans 1:11 "For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;" In Acts 8:15-21 we read, "Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God." What did Simon see? "Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given." I wish others could see what Simon saw there in Samaria. Timothy received a spiritual gift by the laying on of Paul’s hands, "Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands." Yes, the first century Christians received these gifts by the laying on of the apostles hands. Are there any apostles living today? I think NOT!
