Serial Marrier

I heard an interesting phrase the other day, the brother was talking about how some folks in our society have become "Serial Marriers" You have heard of serial murderers, serial raptists, serial arsonists. The word serial suggest the idea, of consecutive, continuous, successive. Thus, we are speaking about people who repeatedly commit murder, rape, or arson, or as in the phrase above, that repeatedly marry more and more different spouses. Now God intended that a man and woman be married for life. In Matt.19:4-6 we read, ""And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." Paul points out that death can free one to marry another, "For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man." Rom.7:2-3. Jesus went on to say in Matt.19:9, ""And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery." So there are 2 legitimate reasons that can allow a person to get married the 2nd time: if your spouse dies or if you divorce your spouse on the grounds of fornication. But what happens is that we have far too many cases where people marry, divorce remarry, on unscriptural grounds, divorce, remarry, divorce, remarry . . . "Serial Marriers" if you please. Sad to see people disregard God’s law of marriage, to treat lightly the holy covenant of matrimony. It’s wonderful to see folks who are committed to one to another, to God and to his laws, "Serial Truth Keepers" if you please
