He's Crazy

James Allen was relating an interesting incident that happen the other day. He was talking with a lady who worked at the hospital, and he was relating to her that how he has tried to get his life turned around spiritually. He told her that he is worshiping with the Providence church of Christ, and that I was the fellow preaching there. This lady asked if that is the guy who writes in the newspaper, which James Allen affirm that we did. She responded that some of her co-workers have talked about the newspaper articles, and made comment that He's crazy that guy who writes the articles. Let me note a few things about this story.

First, it is good to know that people in the community are reading the newspaper articles. It's our job is to get the message out. We are to trumpet forth the word of the Lord, I Thes.1:7-8. We are not responsible for the results, that's God's end of the stick to whittle on.

Secondly, the message is stepping on some toes of those who are reading the newspaper. Not sure what articles they may not be liking, but since we look at a wide variety of topics, something is stepping on their feet. But we cannot withhold seeking to teach the whole counsel of God, just preach the word and let the chips fall where they may, 2Tim.4:2, Acts 20:27.

Thirdly, this is not the first time a preacher of gospel is called Crazy for preaching the truth. Jesus was accused of being Crazy because of what he taught. In Jn.10:20, And many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad; why hear ye him? The NAS translates the phrase, He has a demon and is insane. Why do you listen to him? Strongs' defines the word as, to rave as a "maniac"--be beside self or as some folks will say, AHe's Crazy. Consider also Acts 26:24-25,And as he thus spake for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad. But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness. Festus said (like some folks today), Paul was Crazy for the truth he was preaching. But the response then, as should be now, we must speak forth the words of truth and soberness!
