C & E People

I heard an interesting phrase the other day about those that attend a worship assemble on Easter or Christmas, he called them "C & E People." I remember well in school, friends saying "I don’t go to church all the time, but at least I go Christmas and Easter!" This is what is meant by "C & E People." Now when it comes to Christmas and Easter as religious celebrations, there is no Bible authority for this these 2 practices. So many folks in the denominational world practice such religious holidays, and even some digressive brethren do also. John warns us not to go beyond the doctrine of Christ, "Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son." 2 John 9. The ironic thing about "C & E People" is that they think at least going Christmas and Easter is a good thing, but in fact it is only practicing a work of iniquity.

The New Testament teaches that we should be going regularly throughout the year when it comes to assembling. In Acts 11:26 we read, "And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch." The implication that we should assemble regularly is stated in the negative in Heb.10:25, "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." Instead of making a habit or custom of missing or forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, make a habit of assembling regularly. "C & E People" make a habit of missing all year long, but may go to worship services on Christmas and Easter, thinking at least they get the "big" important days of worship, they do err. Let us make up our minds to assemble every time the door is open. There is a blessing each time we come to worship and serve the Lord. Let us be known as the "E T People" the every time people, not "C & E People"!
