Action Figures

We were having Bible study the other night, and a brother in the Lord was relating attending a wedding of a Catholic friend that was at a Roman Catholic church building. Of course there are many statues of various biblical characters and sometimes of ACatholic Saints. It was kind of humorous how Greg described these statues as AAction Figures as he looked around there at the wedding.

What is sad about these statues or AAction Figures is that people will kneel before certain ones and look and pray unto them. Now the claim is that these AAction Figures are only there to help people visualize and think about the characters they represent. Christianity is a religion that we understand in our hearts and we see the characters and people by faith. AFor we walk by faith, not by sight: 2 Cor.5:7. AWhile we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2Cor.4:18. But, as the nature of people goes, folks soon fall into making these AAction Figures idols. In Ex.20:3-5 we read, AThou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; In I Jn.5:21 we read, ALittle children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. There are so many things in Catholicism's history where Pagan ideas and practices, were accommodated and AChristianize to make them appear biblical. Worshiping a goddess became praying to Mary the queen of heaven. Winter and spring pagan festivals, became Christmas and Easter. Vain repetitions in prayer (Matt.6:7) replaced with counting of beads. Idols that help people Avisualize the gods, replaced with statues of Bible characters, or if you please, AAction Figures. It's amazing how far off track folks can get away from serving the Lord!
