A Rogue

I was over to see Mary Jane, (one of the elderly sisters of the congregation here) the other day and she related an interesting incident that happen many years ago when she was young. Her older brother Edward had been to a meeting on horse back and a particular person had followed behind. That night this man came and stole Edward's horse saddle from him. Fortunately somehow they it tracked down and learned who had it. They took a witness who could testify about some padding that was added and proved the Acase in an orderly fashion at the young man's house. So they recovered the saddle back.

This young man was engaged to be married to a young woman. When the story got out about the saddle thief, one of the brothers of the bride to be, made comment, AIt's bad to have a rouge in the family. A rogue in this context is defined as a rascal; scoundrel, an unprincipled person, a scallywag. Certainly a saddle thief would fit into that category. Now horse saddles would not be that important to most of us today, but back then it was a everyday useful, needed item. It would be parallel to our use of computers today. We have a lot of rogues in the world creating hardship and problems for innocent people by developing viruses, worms, trogon horses that bring all kinds of computer problems. It would be bad to have Arogue in the familythat steal people's computers away by creating computer problems. A lot of rogues back then, as today get jealous, greedy, envious of what others have; and will simply steal it, or mess it up if they get their hands on it. The glorious gospel of Christ can take even Aa rogue saddle thief and change them, if they will let God work in their lives. Consider 1Cor.6:9-11, ANo you not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus , and by the Spirit of our God.
