Cast Me Behind Thy Back

I came across an interesting concept in the Bible the other day. The passages are found in the following texts. I Kings 14:9, "But hast done evil above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back:" Then in Ezek.23:35, "Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast forgotten me, and cast me behind thy back, therefore bear thou also thy lewdness and thy whoredoms." The concept is that people cast God behind their back, like you would throw an apple core in behind you, as say when you are working out in the field. Or like a person who would take a piece of food that fell on the ground while at a picnic, and would toss it behind them over in the weeds. How can people cast God behind their backs? Not literally, for we could not throw God anywhere. Notice 2 more passages. In Ps.50:17, "Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee." Also Neh.9:26, "Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations." This is how we cast God behind our backs, is to disregard and disrespect his law, his word. How many do we have out of the church, and in the church, that is guilty of such an attitude? Folks come to what Jesus said in Mark 16:16 "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned." But cast its truth aside like it was a worthless piece of trash. Some folks read what Jesus prayed about unity in Jn.17:21-23, and toss it aside like a rotten apple. Even we, who are in the church, can be just as guilty of casting God aside. Jesus said to seek first the kingdom of God, in Matt.6:33, yet by our lives we express, that God should feel lucking that we even include him at all in our existence, even if it is second, third or forth place. No beloved, God will not be pleased, for us to cast him behind our backs like a piece of worthless trash. God deserves our utmost respect and reverence, and his word should also be respected and reverenced.
