Blue Jean Underwear

The other day while out in the public, amidst crowds of people, watching folks go by, looking at some of the attire that people were wearing, it struck me. You know, there were some people that wearing such brief, short denim shorts, they looked like "blue jean underwear." I guess folks have gotten used to wearing "colored underwear" (A.K.A. swimsuits) out in the public, that they seem not to even bat an eye about "blue jean underwear" either. Makes one wonder, why go to all the trouble changing into "colored underwear" when you go out into the public; why not just rename your underwear, by saying "abracadabra" the pool has made this underwear now "swimwear"? I wonder, if folks would get embarrassed if they were in their house and an unexpected neighbor came in while they were in their underwear? Yet if they were wearing "blue jean underwear" that cover about the same amount, would they even bat an eye? Is it the color that makes the difference? I think parents sometimes fail to see their children as young adults, blossoming into adolescence and adulthood. Toddlers running around in a diaper and a tee shirt, no one thinks about. But children grow up and we should expect and teach our children principles of modesty and decency. "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;" I Tim.2:9. Consider also, "I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see." Rev.3:18. One should also consider being a stumbling block by my wearing skimpy attire. "Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!" Matt.18:7. Somebody says, they shouldn’t be lusting after me. True, but did I contribute to their sin, by my wearing provocative clothes to stir up lust? I hope we would develop that sense of shame and decency that would cause us to seek to dress modestly and decently, not with "blue jean underwear" or with other immodest choices.
