Di-Psuchos

In James 1:8 we read, A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

The phrase double minded comes from the word we have in the title. It is a compound word, Di meaning two, and Psuchos meaning soul, literally two-souled or two-spirited. Our heart needs to be one, when it comes to serving the Lord. We should have one desire and intention, and that is to serve Christ with all our heart. Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. Matt.22:37. Jesus talked about the problem of the divided soul in Luke 9:62, And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. If we are going to serve the Lord, we put our hand to the plow and just keep looking forward. We keep pressing toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Phil.3:14. When one truly repents, there is never any regrets of what you leave behind in the world of sin, for if there is, we are being that double minded man that James speaks about. For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented [regretted NKJ] of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. 2 Cor.7:10. When we serve the Lord, we burn our bridges behind us, and we look not with any desire of what we leave behind.

A doubled minded man is unstable in all his ways. They are unstable in their spiritual life, in their emotions, their reasoning. People that are two-souled, will reason and act crazy in their thinking and actions. Think about the Jews who were afraid to be defiled by going into Pilate's judgment hall, but thought nothing of killing the son of God, (Jn.18:28), is that crazy or what. Or think about David and his irrational actions in the mess over Bathsheba, completely unstable spiritually.

The solution to the crazy mess of being two-spirited is to repent. Choose God and his will, unconditionally and whole-heartedly. As Elijah challenged the people, quit wavering between serving God or serving Baal. Just serve the true and living God. Have that singleness of eye that Jesus spake about in Matt.6:22-23.
