After His Kind

In Luke 8:5&11 we read, “A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it . . . Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.” vs.11.  There is a very fundamental lesson we want to notice from this parable.  You remember when God made the world, he said, “And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”  Gen.1:12.  Seed produces after it’s own kind: apple seeds produce apple trees, watermelon seed produce watermelons, corn seed produce corn, broccoli seed produces broccoli.  Now if you plant bean seed, will it produce potatoes?  Or if you plant squash seed will it produce watermelons?   No, the seed will produce after it’s kind.  Now when the pure seed, the word of God is planted in the hearts of men, what will it produce?  Only one thing, it will make a Christian!  You see it takes the Bible plus the Methodist Discipline to make a Methodist; it takes the Bible plus Catholic Tradition to make a Roman Catholic; it takes the Bible plus Watchtower Publications to make a Jehovah’s Witness; it takes the Bible plus the Baptist Church Manual to Baptist; it takes the Bible plus the book of Mormon to make a Mormon; etc.  You see, the seed produces after it’s kind!  Let Jesus speak about all these plantings: “Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.”   Matt.15:13.
