Showing Skin

I was listening I think, to headline news the other day, and they had a segment on that caught my attention. They were interviewing a clothes designer and he was talking about summer fashions, and the comment was made, "that is what summer is about, showing skin". This is a perfect example that godly people walk to the beat of a different drummer. "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God".This may be what worldly people think about summer, "Showing Skin" but God fearing folks think otherwise. Exposing the shame of one's nakedness runs contrary to what the word of God describes. Consider the following passages. "I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakednessdo not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see". Rev.3:18.

Yes, this is talking about a spiritual sense, but it must be true in the physical realm for the language to hold true. In I Tim.2:9-10 the Bible says, "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works". No, men and women who have their head on straight, are not interested in "Showing Skin" in the public places, but with a sense of shame, seek to hide the shame of their nakedness. Look at the disastrous results of a woman who was showing too much skin, the story of David and Bathsheba, II Sam.11:1ff. I hope that all of us will develop that spirit of shamefacedness, which will reflect itself by dressing modestly and not by "Showing Skin"!
