Hate

One of the destructive human emotions that men give over to is hate. Paul lists hate in the works of the flesh in Gal.5:19-21. Paul said in Titus 3:3, "For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another". John warns in I Jn.3:15, "Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him". There is no way we can go to heaven and hate our brother. John went on to say, "If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also". I Jn.4:20-21.

Hate is having ill will that wants to do harm to another; the direct opposite of love, which is good will, that wants good to befall another. Hate manifests itself in words, Ps.109:3, strife, Pr.10:12, in seeking to destroy another, e.g. Haman in Esther 5:9-14. But the warning of scripture is: beware, we shall reap what we sow, Gal.6:7. As you look at the story of Haman, he was hung on is own gallows! Indeed, hate hurts the one doing the hating the worst.
