Waiting with Hope

Have you ever felt like giving up? Like the pressures of life were just too heavy to bear. David did. Psalm 27 begins with bold declarations of trust, but by the end, David acknowledges something deeper — a struggle to keep going unless he clung to a promise.
Psalm 27:13–14 reads, "I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!"v.13)

The Struggle of the Soul (v.13)

"I would have lost heart…"
David is honest. Even a man after God’s own heart was tempted to give up.
Life can crush us:  Prayers go unanswered, injustice seems to win, illness, grief, depression, loneliness — they wear us down."

…unless I had believed…"Faith became David’s anchor. Not faith in himself, or in good circumstances — but in the goodness of the Lord.
If you're on the edge of despair, the key to holding on is to believe that you will see God’s goodness — not just in eternity, but “in the land of the living.” That means now — in your life, in your family, in your community.

2. The Strength That Comes from Waiting (v.14)

"Wait on the Lord; be of good courage…"
Waiting is not sitting still. The Hebrew word "wait" (qavah) carries the idea of expectation — like a watchman looking for the morning.
"And He shall strengthen your heart…"
God does not leave us to wait alone. He strengthens us in the process. Your waiting is not wasted — it’s where God builds your faith.

3. The Repetition of the Command

"Wait, I say, on the Lord!”
Why repeat it? Because we need to hear it again — and again. Our nature resists waiting. We want answers now. But God’s timing is not ours. And His delays are not denials. God uses waiting to develop us before He promotes us.

Some things I want you to take with you today 1. Don’t quit in the dark what God told you in the light. 2. Trust His timing — He’s never late. 3. Lean into His strength — not your own.4. Look for His goodness even in hard places.

You may be in a waiting room season — a season of silence, confusion, or sorrow. But don’t lose heart. Like David, said: "I believe I will see the goodness of the Lord.” And while you wait — wait with hope.
