Adultery
Let us study about a common problem that is prevailing in society; and yes, sometimes among the people of God; it is the sin of adultery.
God has spoken very plainly on the matter, "Thou shalt not commit adultery," Rom.13:9. Paul in Gal.5:19&21 said, "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness....of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God." Indeed, adultery is a very serious transgression, that can prevent one from going to heaven! Adultery is sexual unfaithfulness of one who is married. Far too many folks make the sacred promises in the marriage ceremony, only to break them by an "affair" or adultery. Whether it is a one night fling, or a 6 month stand; it has broken the hearts of many a soul! Sometimes folks divorce their spouses unscripturally, and "marry" another thinking this makes it right; IT DOESN’T! Matthew 19:9, "And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery." Notice the rule the Lord is giving here; to divorce and to remarry another is to commit adultery; except when you divorce your spouse for fornication or unfaithfulness. Far too many have divorced for every cause, and then go and marry another person, yet they are living in adultery. The only way to be forgiven, is to repent and seek God’s mercy. Some want forgiveness without repenting, it cannot be so; repentance is a prerequisite that is required by God, Luke 13:3, "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."
