The Shadow Passed Down: From Our Father God to Jesus, to Man, to the Child
We just celebrated our fathers, those that are still with us and the memories of those that have gone on. Do you remember how big and strong your father’s shadow was. The memories of us as a child trying to imitate that shadow are something we can learn many lessons from. Our physical shadow follows us everywhere. It's silent, it's constant, and it's shaped by where we stand in relation to the light. The same is with our spiritual shadow. It also follows us everywhere. It's silent, it's constant, and it's shaped by where we stand in relation to the Spiritual light.
God our Father’s shadow is the divine covering. We read in Psalm 91:1 – “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. “This shadow of God represents protection, presence, and power. It begins with God the Father, whose authority and love cover His creation. This divine covering is where all spiritual legacy begins.
Jesus Our Father is the express image of God’s shadow. Hebrews 1:3 tells us, “Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person…” Aso in John 14:9 – “He who has seen Me has seen the Father. “Jesus is God in the flesh, carrying the divine shadow into human form. He walked in the full authority of the Father, demonstrating how to live within God’s shadow. He is the visible image of the invisible God.
Man is the father on earth, expected by God to bear the shadow of Christ. Ephesians 5:1 explains how we are to be as fathers – “Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children.” Also, in 2 Corinthians 3:18 – “We all…are being transformed into His image…” Jesus passed His legacy to us through the Holy Spirit. As believers, we now carry His presence, casting His shadow in how we live, love, and lead. We are reflections of Christ and stewards of the shadow we walk in. Lastly, it is the Child that Walks in the Shadow of their Father. We must strive to do as it is told in Proverbs 22:6 – “Train up a child in the way he should go...” and again in Deuteronomy 6:6–7 – “These words…teach them diligently unto thy children…”
When a godly man walks with Jesus, he casts a shadow of faith. The child walks in that shadow, learning who God is through the father's life. That shadow becomes a spiritual covering and legacy passed down from generation to generation.
Consider how your life casts a shadow on others. Are you reflecting the light of Christ? Is your faith providing spiritual shade and strength for the next generation?
Think on these things.
