Mother’s Reflect the Characteristics of Our God
Sunday was a day that we celebrated our mothers or the women that stepped up to help raise us. Mothers are very valuable, and it got me to thinking how much mothers show the same characteristics of God.
1. Mothers Show Unconditional Love: Isaiah 49:15 tells us, “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!"
This verse highlights the deep emotional and spiritual connection between a mother and her child, showing that even if human love fails, God's love never does.
2. Mothers Sacrifice for Their Children
Proverbs 31:27-28 says, "She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. “
3. Mothers Offer Comfort and Healing
Mothers have a special way of providing comfort and healing, just as God does for His children. In Isaiah 66:13 it reads "as a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem. “Again, in Psalm 131:2 – "But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content."
4. Mothers Teach and Guide in Truth
Mothers are often the first spiritual teachers in a child's life, leading them toward faith and wisdom.
Proverbs 31:25-26 – "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue."
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 – "These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.
Impress them on your children... “
Proverbs 6:20-22 – "My son, keep your father’s command and do not forsake your mother’s teaching... When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you."
5. A Mother's Reflection of Christ
As we come to the end of this celebrated day dedicated to mothers, let us take a moment to reflect on the divine qualities they embody—unconditional love, unwavering sacrifice, comforting presence, and godly wisdom.
Mothers reflect the heart of Christ in the way they nurture, guide, and care for their families. Their love is not just emotional—it is spiritual, a reflection of God’s eternal love for His children. Just as Christ laid down His life for us, mothers daily lay down their own needs to lift up those they love.
Proverbs 31:28 remind us: "Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. “
