"What The Bible Says"

We were talking with a man who preaches for a denominational church recently. He pointed out that deacons are just servants in the church not the appointed leaders of the congregation.  He recognizes that such is not the popular view of his denomination, but he said "it's what the Bible says."  I certainly applause the good reasoning on his part in this topic, and that good statement, "it's what the Bible says." If we had more people in the world that would take this attitude on every bible topic that comes up, we would have more people following the word of God.  This is the attitude of the restoration movement: What does the Bible say? What saith the scriptures? If any man speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God.  Book, chapter, and verse preaching has been the distinct message of gospel preachers everywhere. "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so" Acts 17:11. This is what God is looking for in humans today, men and women who seek the truth. The word of God is the final say on any controversy or discussion that arises today.  Far too many rely on human wisdom and human doctrine. "And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified." 1 Cor.1:1-2. Citing the bible is how we can resist the devil, Matt.4:1-4 as we see the example of Jesus, "it is written..." was his answer to Satan.  Jesus asked many times on a variety of topics, "Have you not read...?"  The power in religious discussions is to be able to show, read, or quote what does the Bible say.  May we stand behind the cross of Calvary, and the message of the pure word of God, for that is what the Bible says.
