Kids Belong to Whole Communities

I saw this article on the Internet the other day: "MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry recorded a commercial for the network in which she stated that children do not belong to their parents, but are instead the responsibility of the members of their community." "We have never invested as much in public education as we should have because we've always had kind of a private notion of children. Your kid is yours and totally your responsibility. We haven't had a very collective notion of these are our children," she says in a spot for the network's "Lean Forward" campaign. "So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents, or kids belong to their families, and recognize that kids belong to whole communities." I think a few verses from the mouth of God will answer this nonsense, "Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one's youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed When they speak with their enemies in the gate." Ps.127:3-5 NAS. And in Gen.33:4-5, "And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept. And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are these with thee? And he said, The children whom God hath graciously given thy servant." Thus children are a gift of God to mothers and fathers. They have the primary responsibility to bring them up. Extended family, the church and community have an influence in directing children, but they are given to moms and dads. It does not mean you have the right to abuse your children, but they given into parents hands to raise in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, Eph.6:1-4.
