Convictions For Sale

I heard an interesting point made about some so called "brethren" who were supposedly "converted" to the truth. It seems some denominational folks came along and offered to built them a medical clinic, a secular school, and few other material things, if they would change their belief to that particular denominational creed. The observation was made that these folks had "Convictions For Sale." I'm reminded of a man that sold his birthright for a mess of pottage. Hebrews 12:16-17, "Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears." It's sad but true, that some brethren will sell out to the highest bidder. No doubt Esau later regretted ever selling his birthright, but for him it was too late. There are men who will preach to please men, preaching what people want to hear, and neglecting things that need to be preached on. Paul spoke about this problem in 2 Timothy 4:2-4, "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." Our convictions need to be sincere and genuine, with an unwavering faith and trust in God and his word. Proverbs 23:23, "Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding." No, our convictions and faith ought not to be for sale for any price!
