Be a Tool

In the airport in Houston this week there was a lighted sign on the wall with the above caption. It went on to say, "Be essential, be strong, and be constructive. Be the best thing to happen to a family. And the best gift ever given." Indeed a good thought, that when we give of ourselves, our time, our talents, our means, we can be a tool for good. We can bless our family, or be a blessing in the workplace. We can be a tool for good in our neighborhood. And we can be a blessing to the church. When we are devoted to God, by giving ourselves to him, God can use us as his tools in the work of the Lord. The Macedonians gave themselves to the Lord, "We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us." 2 Cor.8:1-5. What a blessing those brethren were there in Macedonia to the work of the Lord. The Lord used them in his service to be a tool for good. For the good they did and the powerful influence that their good example had in the 1st century. Are you a tool in the Master's hand?
