The Bucket List
I saw a movie called with the above title. It is about 2 men that are in the same hospital room and they talk about things that they wanted to do before they "kick the bucket". Things like go sky diving, or drive a race car, or take an adventure to some foreign country. The fellow calls it his "bucket list" of these things that he wants to do before he dies. But this got me to thinking about some spiritual lessons to consider. It is most true that we ALL are going to "kick the bucket" i.e. we are going to die. "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:" Heb.9:27. And there are definitely some things that would be good to do before we die. At the top of your "Bucket List" should be: get right with God, or be right with God. The way we do that is to obey the gospel of Jesus Christ, for Peter said in 1Pet.4:17 b, "what will be the end for those who do not obey the gospel of God?" Then we must be faithful until death. "be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life." Rev.2:10. Another thing on your "Bucket List" should be do your best to make things right with any that you are in strained from. Texts like Rom.12:18; Matt.5:23-24; Matt.18:15-17 teach us that lesson. Another item on your "Bucket List" is to be the best husband, or wife, or mother or father, etc. that you can be. Consider these verses, Eph.5:22-6:4. Another item on your list is to try to speak to everyone in your sphere of influence about the Lord and his gospel. We sing the song, "You Never Mentioned Him To Me" touches on this thought. One other item on a your "Bucket List" would be filled with heavenly wisdom and draw nigh unto God, James 3:13-18; 4:8. Are you working on fulfilling your spiritual "Bucket List"???
