Self Prosecutor

We went to the meeting the other night, and Raymond in his lesson on King David used an interesting phrase in his sermon. He said we should be a "Self Prosecutor" in our hearts and lives. Now the job of a prosecutor is to look at the evidence and built a case to show the person is guilty of the crime accused of, and then in the trial to present all the evidence before the jury or judge. Now we need to be constantly look at ourselves in making judgments about our life, conduct self prosecuting if you please. Now Paul said in 2 Cor.13:5, "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?" We are to take teachings of our Lord, and look at our actions, words, attitudes and see if they match up. If we will be a self prosecutor about our lives, and the verdict is guilty, let us take the occasion to turn to the Lord and seek his forgiveness. If we are seeking to live right, we can rest in the fact of being a child of God. Thats what Paul said in Rom.8:16, "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:"

Yet too often we want to try to justify ourselves by playing the mental gymnastics games, that we as human beings are good at, unfortunately so. Consider Luke 10:29, "But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?" Here we have the lawyer who in the discussion had answered rightly, but when Jesus pointed the application to him, he sought to justify himself. He was being dishonest with himself and with God in "prosecuting" the case. That is problem with men too often, we will not be honest. No wonder Jesus explained the good ground in Luke 8:15 as "But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience." We must be absolutely honest with God and with ourselves in this matter of self prosecution. We can become a crooked lawyer and twist the facts to reach the outcome to satisfy the flesh and its passions. When Paul said "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,"1 Cor. 6:9. That is exactly what will happen to some men and women, we will deceive ourselves into thinking we can live in such ungodly behavior and still be go to heaven when we die. That is simple being a crooked self prosecutor. No beloved, let us be honestly fair in this matter of self prosecution, its only by living right in the sight of God that we can make it to heaven.
