Drunk Flyers

We have heard a lot over the years about drunk drivers, and rightly so, for a lot of innocent people have been hurt, maimed and killed by these drunk drivers. There are two prominent groups that have been formed in an effort to stop the problem, MADD {Mothers Against Drunk Drivers} and SADD {Students Against Drunk Drivers}.

Recently we have been made aware of a new problem, ADrunk Flyers. There are two America West pilots that were stopped on the runway of a Miami airport and ordered to taxi back in. They took a Breathalyzer test and were charged with flying under the influence of alcohol. (If driving under the influence is a DUI, would this be a FUI?). Both were fired from their jobs a couple of days afterward, and will also face criminal charges and prosecution. Now it appears to me that this would be a serious crime if convicted. Why? Because they were endangering the lives of hundreds of people, not just a few.. The golden rule applied would have stopped such behavior, ATherefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Matt.7:12. Would you want someone to endanger your life, by being on board a plane with intoxicated pilots; where they would have impaired judgment and a delayed reaction time, in flying a plane, which could result in a major disaster? To ask the question is to answer the question. Of course if these pilots would have considered I Pet.4:3-4, AFor the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: They would have understood that getting drunk, or getting 2 drunk, or just drinking a few, is the will of the Gentiles, and not the will of God. It's sad to think that passengers may have to inquire if their pilots have been taking a little nip, before they take off from the airport. Yes, AOne sinner destroyeth much good. Eccl.9:18.
