Church In A Box
I was talking with some folks a little while back and they were relating an interesting story. There was some religious group that would send a packaged box with a tape and a little communion set. It was called a AChurch in a Box. You could listen to the tape that had music and singing; prayers; and a sermon recorded. I would tend to think that they probably had a return envelope for you to send in a Alove offering. Now certainly there is nothing wrong to listening to tapes of sermons, or to listen to tapes of singing, which one may sing along, for I have done both. And certainly the saints can pray anytime to the Father, as this is the privilege of the people of God, APray without ceasing. I Thess.5:17. Now maybe the goal was to be considerate of those who are sick and shut-in. But I can certainly see the potential for folks to abuse and be deceived in the matter. The Lord commands and teaches us to assemble together with the saints. ANot forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Heb.10:25. Again I Cor.14:19 AYet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue. And in Acts 20:7, AAnd upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. God commands and expects us to assemble with the church. One could easily err into thinking that I could take my AChurch in a Boxand head on down to the Lake for some R&R and just open the Abox maybe when the fish are not biting. It is so true that people maybe sometimes have noble motives, but as with many things in life, the devil is ever present to put a twist and make perversion of them. Let us not miss the privilege to assemble with the saints as God has directed in his word. Let us to do those things he has commanded of us, as he has given pattern and order in the word of God.
