Won't Even Know

I was listening on the car radio one time while driving back from Lexington. On a radio talk show a lady called in about her infant daughter soon to be "baptized." The lady wanted to use a used baptismal gown from a relative; Her mother-in-law wanted to buy a new one (this was one complaint, is that these things cost about a $100.00). Well the advice given was, in order to get along; Since the in-laws were buying the gown, and since the baby "won't even know" what is going on, just go along with her mother-in-law. But, this got me to thinking about that the statement about the baby. Here is a baby that is being "baptized" but doesn't even "know" what is going on! So how could this be helping the baby to "baptize" her? We read, "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned." Mark 16:16. Jesus said that one is to believe and be baptized; Not, be baptized and believe later on in life. Could a baby that "won't even know" what is going on be counted as a believer? We read, "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."   Acts 2:38. Peter said one was to repent and then to be baptized.  What are little babies to repent of? Has anyone ever seen little babies repent? They don't even "know" anything about repentance. In Acts 8:36-37 we read, "And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." Now we see an example of a person ready to be baptized, confessing faith in the Son of God. Can little infants confess the name of the Savior before they are "baptized"? Has anyone ever seen infants confess the Lord, or confess anything for that matter? Yes, sometimes people state the truth unwittingly about the false and erroneous ways of men's doctrines. I would imagine that talk show hostess didn't "even know" that she was stating the problem of the error of infant baptism in such an articulate way!
