Why Worry?

I saw a bumper sticker on the back of a car that said, Why Worry? God is in control. Indeed a very good thought for us to meditate on. If we believe in the providence and care of our heavenly Father, why should we worry? Jesus speaks on anxiety and worry over the necessities of life in Matt.6:25-34. He points out in vs.25, "Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?" If God gives us life and God gives us a body, shall he not give us food and clothes that are necessary for our body and life? So why worry? Then Jesus shows in vs.26, "Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?" If God takes care of the birds, (and he does) will he not take care of us who are of more value than many sparrows? So why worry? Then Jesus asks, "Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?"vs.27. If worry will not change how tall we are, or add days to our life, why worry? Then the Savior says, "And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?" vss.28-30. If God clothes the flowers in great beauty, can he not take care of need for clothes? So why worry? Our worry and anxiety are evidence of a little faith, a lack of trust. Notice Jesus continues "(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things." God knows and is aware we have needs. But, for those who do not have a heavenly Father to look to take care of them, will worry. So if we trust in God as our heavenly Father, why worry over these things. Jesus exhorts us "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." vs.33. This is what we need to set our attention on, for God shall add the necessities to our life. If we believe his promise, why worry? Then Jesus says, "Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." Why worry about tomorrow? We are not there right now and cannot change it today anyway, so why worry? Since worry will not change the morrow, but will drain away our energy to deal with today’s problems, so why worry? We worry about dying, but it is an appointed fact, so why worry? I like the serenity prayer. God, help me to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

So in conclusion, Why Worry?
