Salvage Business

One time we had a preacher speak for us who used the above phrase in a couple of his lessons. In pondering about this phrase, I am reminded of a couple of different passages. First, in Luke 4:18-19 we read, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord." Also I think of the verse in I Peter 2:24, "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed." Our Lord is in the business of healing broken hearts, recovering the sight of the blind, setting at liberty them that are bruised, or the salvaging business. The word salvage according to the thesaurus (a book of synonyms, or words that mean the same thing) has several interesting words listed as synonyms: save, retrieve, redeem, rescue, regain, restore, recover, glean, and recycle. Thus to say that the Lord is in the salvage business, is to say that he is seeking to restore broken hearts, to regain souls from the clutches of Satan, to rescue the perishing, to retrieve the lost from doom. Thanks be to God for his mercy and grace, that can salvage us utter ruin and destruction!
