Plastic Surgery

I was driving in the car the other day an heard an interesting comment about credit card buying, the man said he thought a lot of folks need to have some "plastic surgery" done. I would tend to think he is right. Let me begin by saying there is nothing wrong with owning and using credit cards, I have some myself. But the abuse and misuse has gotten some folks in a great deal of trouble in their lives. We are an instant society and it seems we want everything NOW. Credit cards, make it easy to "buy" things at the store. We lay the plastic card down and "pay" for the item. But, we are not really paying for the item yet. We are borrowing from a bank that issued the card to us, on this purchase we have made. Greed and covetousness (Rom.13:9), that uncontrolled desire and lust for more, can lead us to that abuse of the credit card system of borrowing. Of course these banks like the credit card form of lending, for they get 18-21% interest rate on average, for the money they lend. Now it seems to me that this is pretty steep interest rate for borrowed money. I am reminded of the proverb, "The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender." Pr.22:7. The one who borrows, is a servant, a slave to the lender. Paul talked about this concept in I Cor.6:12, "All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any." Yes, credit cards are lawful (right) to have, but we cannot abuse them and be brought into bondage by their misuse. Peter said, "For of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage." 2 Pet.2:19b. Never borrow money you cannot repay. Yes, I would tend to think that there needs to be a lot of "plastic surgery" done across the land.
