Easter and Mr. Vine

The other day I was looking up a word in Vine's dictionary, and came across his entry for the word Easter. "PASCHA, mistranslate ‘Easter’ in Ac.12:4 A.V., denotes the Passover (R.V.). The phrase ‘after the Passover’ signifies after the whole festival was at an end. The term Easter is not of Christian origin. It is another form of Astarte, one of the titles of the Chaldean goddess, the queen of heaven. The festival of Pasch held by Christians in the post-apostolic times was a continuation of the Jewish feast, but was not instituted by Christ, nor was it connected with Lent. From this Pasch the pagan festival of Easter was quite distinct and was introduced into the apostate Western religion, as part of the attempt to adapt Pagan festivals to Christianity."

Indeed, Mr. Vine did an excellent job in his work about the word Easter from Ac.12:4 as used in the KJV. Wouldn't it be great, if we could get our sectarian and denominational friends to accept this truth! But folks have a way of getting entrenched and embedded in the traditions of men, and it seems so few will cast them aside for the truth. The traditions of men is one of those things that led men astray from Christ, Col.2:8. Honest and good hearts desire the truth no matter what the cost.
